About this event:

Thank you for your interest in our Annual Marathon. This event celebrates more than two decades of rolling a person with ALS 26.2 miles as a collective team effort. For many years, this tradition took place as part of the Los Angeles Marathon, and ALS United Orange County is grateful to have been part of such an incredible event. Today, the marathon continues locally along the beautiful Orange County coast. The views are amazing, the energy is high, and the parking is much better! When circumstances prevented participation in the Los Angeles Marathon, ALS United Orange County reimagined the event while staying true to its mission. Because ALS never takes a day off, we knew the tradition had to continue. The event was transformed into a coastal run from Newport Beach to Bolsa Chica and back, creating a unique and inspiring experience that brings the community together in support of those living with ALS.

Taking part in this event will make you part of our elite team of 26 individual mile sponsors, runners and beach cruisers, who will appeal to their friends, family, and business associates to raise ALS awareness and financial support for local Care Services, ALS Patient Advocacy and Research. Your participation on behalf of ALS United Orange County would be truly appreciated and an experience you will never forget.

This tradition started in 1999 by Martin Mooney, after he was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 37. Even though his condition had seriously deteriorated, he went through the course again in 2000. He passed away from complications of the disease a few weeks after his second Marathon. Each year since, his spirit and courage have been remembered and honored by other ALS patients who have been our “Marathoners”.
